Three-hour, in-depth weekend workshop series for section-specific SAT preparation and score improvement. At the conclusion of the workshops, students will be provided with a full length, official SAT test to complete and score at home. On March 4, instructors will host a test review evening to break down the most difficult test questions and answer any individual questions in preparation for the March 9 SAT test.
The first workshop (2/23, 1 - 4 p.m.) tackles the Reading and Writing sections for the SAT, as well as the optional essay, and focuses on the most important short-term strategies for score improvement. Topics covered include: • How to avoid drawing the inferences that are common sources for incorrect reading answers. • Tips for handling paired questions and paired passages. • Breaking down rhetorical function questions in order to improve reading scores. • The most important grammar and editing "must knows" and complete grammar rules. • How to write a winning essay, with examples. • Practice with all of the above.
The second workshop (2/24, 1 - 4 p.m.) tackles the SAT Math sections (calculator and non-calculator) and focuses on the most important short-term strategies for score improvement. Topics covered include: • How to handle the "no calculator" section and the grid-in answers, both common areas of concern for SAT test-takers. • Review of the most important concepts for the "Heart of Algebra" questions. • Review of the Data Analysis and Problem Solving questions most likely to be unfamiliar to students who have not had extensive course work in statistics. • Review of the Passport to Advanced Math questions most likely to trip up even the advanced mathematician. • Practice with problems in all areas mentioned above.
